Faculty Search, Basic Science and Engineering Initative, Stanford University

Assistant, Associate or Full Professor

Stanford University

Inaugural Basic Science and Engineering (BASE) Initiative

Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center

The Stanford Children’s Health Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center is inaugurating a major initiative in Basic Science and Engineering. Scientists will be appointed to the Children’s Heart Center and as tenure track Assistant, Associate or Full Professors in the Basic Science or Engineering Departments of Stanford University. Our goal is to leverage cutting edge research to address the challenges we face in children with heart disease. Our expectation is that innovative and interdisciplinary advances in computer science, diverse engineering disciplines, genetics, developmental biology, chemical and structural biology, cell physiology and biochemistry can ultimately be applied to reverse damage and to regenerate young and developing heart tissue, valves, vessels, and lungs.

The candidates are expected to establish high quality, independent research programs in the new Biomedical Innovations Building and to have a strong record of, or potential for, exceptional teaching. In addition to evidence of prior research accomplishments, the successful applicant must have an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD degree and have completed at least two years of postdoctoral fellowship training.

Successful candidates will be chosen based upon the quality and innovation of their research and their commitment to develop independent and interdisciplinary approaches that will improve our understanding and meet the challenges we face in children's heart disease. The basic and engineering research programs will be linked to our strong highly specialized clinical programs in single ventricle, pulmonary artery reconstruction and pulmonary hypertension, cardiovascular connective tissue disorders, heart failure and transplant, including mechanical assist devices and bloodless surgery.

Interested candidates should submit their NIH biosketch; complete curriculum vitae, including current and former extramural funding; a two-page summary of current and projected research program, including 3 PDFs of their most important scientific publications; a two-page summary of how the research program envisioned at Stanford will contribute to advancing one or more of the specialty clinical programs at the Children’s Heart Center over the next 5-10 years and the names and contact information for three individuals we can approach for references. For information on the program and how to apply, please visit http://med.stanford.edu/base.html. Applications will be received starting September 15, 2018 and review will begin December 17, 2018.
