The Morrison lab of the Alpert Medical School at Brown University and Providence VA Medical Center, Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Cardiology, is seeking an advanced Postdoctoral Fellow to participate in a number of institutional, NIH, and VA-funded projects. Salary support will be based on NIH standards. This fellow will take a leadership role under supervision of the PI as part of a dynamic team of scientists who are identifying novel mechanisms whereby the immune system directs vascular remodeling, including processes of atherosclerotic calcification, angiogenesis, and pulmonary hypertension. The focus of these studies involves cellular biology as well as molecular and biochemical signaling to effect gene expression, including non-coding RNA-mediated pathways.
Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. or M.D. degree with previous extensive experience in molecular biology, immunology, and vascular biology. Candidates should have experience in qRT-PCR, ELISA, Western blotting, flow cytometry, bright-field and confocal microscopy, cloning and mapping of constructs, protein expression, cell culture techniques, high throughput transcriptomics (RNA-seq) and metabolomics. Experience working with mice is essential. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and a willingness to take a leading role on assigned projects under the supervision of the P.I. Candidates must be highly and self-motivated with a strong desire for career development and independent funding by the end of the postdoctoral training period. Excellent communication skills are required during the postdoctoral training. Experience with word processing and Excel required.
Preferred Qualifications: Mouse surgical and bone marrow transplantation experience is an advantage. Experience using primary human and mouse cells, particularly monocyte/macrophage culturing is preferred. Experience with data analysis, including imaging analysis, sequence analysis, and bioinformatics database search and analysis is an advantage.
